ATTENTION: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

(SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING REGIONAL TOURNAMENT)

No A/B/C Distinction. All wrestlers compete on an equal basis. Note: CAWL Wrestlers are not eligible to wrestle in any NVWF meet or tournament if they wrestled in a CAWL meet or tournament the same weekend. CAWL wrestlers who received 6th or better in previous year(s) CAWL Tournament, are not eligible to wrestle in the NVWF.

No Wrestling up. Wrestlers wrestle in their age groups. Note: Weight exceptions must be approved by the NVWF Commissioner two weeks prior to the Regional Tournament.

8-MAN BRACKETS. As much as possible (Bantams excepted), 8-man double elimination brackets will be used. This means there will be a championship bracket (top portion of the page) and a consolation bracket (bottom portion of the page). This also means there will be some differences from what you are used to at our regular season meets: 2, 3 or 4 MATCHES. Wrestlers who lose their first two matches will be eliminated and will not have a 3rd match. Wrestlers who lose one of their first two matches will be competing in the consolation bracket for 3rd place and may have to wrestle 4 times:

  • REMATCHES. It sometimes happens that the match to determine 3rd and 4th can be between two wrestlers who already wrestled each other in the first round. So if you lost once and are competing in the consolation bracket, you may have to wrestle someone you wrestled before.
  • SEEDED CLASSES. The 8-man brackets are fully seeded based on the results of matches wrestled during the year. This means that in the 1st round, number 1 (top rated) wrestles number 8, number 2 wrestles number 7, etc. Therefore in the first round you may see some very one-sided matches – but hang in there, because the second round has winners against winners and losers against losers, so it often happens that the second round matches are some of the best and closest the kids have all year.

AWARDS. Medals are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, and ribbons for 4th and 5th. There are two 5th places awarded, as there is no wrestle off for 5th and 6th. If you lose to one of the wrestlers finishing 3rd or 4th, you will receive 5th.

AWARD PRESENTATION. Awards will be given out at the club level. No awards will be given at the tournament.

ROUND ROBIN BRACKETS. When there are only 3 or 4 wrestlers in a weigh class, the same round robin system we used during the year will be used. Hopefully you are well familiar with this one already. Note: All bantam matches are round robbin.

CLASS NAMES. Classes are named according to the heaviest actual weight allowed for the class. This is different from during the year when the computer generates class names based on the lightest wrestler’s weight.

Boys wrestling action for the win.
