The underhook that waits

In Greco the lock is the attack. The lift, if it comes, is just the lock agreeing to move.

Two wrestlers lock an underhook clinch inside a red circle.

No legs. That rule is one sentence and it builds a different posture. Heads get heavy. Hands hunt the near arm because a lock is the door to a lift, and a lift is one of the few scores large enough to end an argument.

The still is the minute before anyone tries. Both athletes have an arm in. Neither has promised to move. This is where people who do not watch Greco decide the style is dull. They are waiting for a shot the rules removed.

Olympic Greco is six weights, from 60 to 130. The heaviest of them spent years under one career and now has to be a division without him. You do not need that history to read an underhook. You need to see whose hand is flat on the shoulder blade and whose hand is already slipping off.
