Senior World Championships

24 October – 1 November 2026·Astana, Kazakhstan

The senior summit of the year. Nine days in Astana, three disciplines, and no obligation to treat it as an Olympic preview.

The senior world championships run from 24 October to 1 November in Astana, Kazakhstan. Freestyle, Greco-Roman and women's wrestling share the programme. It is the largest assignment on the NVWF calendar this autumn.

A few rooms will organise the narrative: women's 57 kilograms, the middle of men's freestyle, and whatever Greco-Roman does with the first passivity calls of the final session. Heavyweight, in both men's styles, will be watched for succession stories. We will try to watch it for wrestling.

What a world title is

A senior world title is not a stepping stone by default. In an Olympic year it can also be a qualifying result. In 2026 it is the title itself. More weights are contested here than at the Games. A gold at a non-Olympic weight is a world championship, and we will not file it as a curiosity.

Coverage will separate preview from result. Previews are arguments. Results are the protocol. If those two things disagree, the protocol wins.
